Research on Electrolyzer Modeling and Day ahead Scheduling Considering the Influence of Electrolyzer Temperature

Electrolyzers can effectively consume renewable energy, which might be involved in accelerating the transformation of energy consumption structure. There is currently insufficient research on the impact of operating temperature on electrolyzers, and the neglect of operating conditions will lead to errors in residual heat calculation. In order to make a more accurate system operation strategy with alkaline electrolyzer (AEL) and conduct an accurate system economic evaluation, this article establishes an AEL operation model based on the consideration of electrolyzer temperature. Based on the analysis of reversible and irreversible potentials, it can be inferred that electrolyzer temperature can have an impact on input power. By introducing a typical winter day background from a community in northwest China, this article establishes an integrated power and hydrogen system (IPHS) and obtains that electrolytic residual heat can reach 29.36% of the total energy consumption of electrolysis, thus verifying the necessity of recycling electrolytic residual heat. Through the case study of electrolysis efficiency under the change of temperature rise range, this paper further demonstrates that the electrolysis efficiency can be increased by about 3% when the temperature rise range is 30 °C. Based on the research results of this article, researchers are able to conduct the precise scheduling and efficiency improvement of electrolyzers in high proportion renewable energy systems.
