Digitalization as a Catalyst for Smart Grid Development in Ukraine: Status and Prospects of Implementation

The digitalization of Ukraine's energy sector has the potential to transform the country's power grid into a smarter, more efficient system. With the help of advanced technologies and digital solutions, the implementation of a smart grid can enhance the reliability and security of the energy supply while reducing costs and environmental impact. Despite the challenges and obstacles that may arise during the implementation process, the prospects of a fully digitalized energy system in Ukraine are promising. It is emphasized in the paper that digitalization makes it possible to balance electricity consumption by returning excess power to the same network from which it was transmitted. This is especially relevant for Ukraine from the standpoint of how to protect the power system during the war, considering the constant shelling of critical infrastructure and solving the issue of power outages. The government, energy regulators, and private sector stakeholders must work together to ensure the successful deployment of smart grid technologies, which will ultimately benefit both the energy sector and the country as a whole.
