Currents and Magnetic Force in Magnetoimpulse Treatment of Aluminum Plates: Experimental Validation and Modeling Analysis

Application of high-density impulse currents, exceeding 10^9 A/m^2, is known to induce electroplastic effect in metal products. It investigates magnetopulse treatment by application of pulse electromagnetic field for localization current flow in welding joints of non-magnetic aluminum plates under coils of inductor. The aim of this study is to compare measured and calculated values of currents and voltages at terminals of the inductor in magnetopulse treatment of aluminum plates with varying thickness. Additionally, the study aims to determine impulse current density and force density in treatment area of these plates. An experimental prototype of the inductor, consisting of two coils and a P-shaped magnetic core, is developed and connected to the impulse current source with capacitor 2 mF and peak voltage 500 V. Numerical modeling using the finite element method is employed to calculate current density and force density in the aluminum plates. The modeling involves solving magnetic field equation and electric circuit equation for discrete time intervals to obtain transients. A comparison analysis made between measured and calculated values of impulse currents. It also investigates electromagnetic forces and impulse eddy currents in the aluminum plates with presence and absence of a magnetic core.
