Promoting Sustainable Development Literacy: Strategies to Enhance Students' Understanding of the SDGs

Nowadays, countries worldwide increasingly recognize the need to invest in the well-being of future generations and embrace Sustainable Development (SD). In this context, the Ukrainian institution of education is a crucial actor in the nationwide SD strategy, as it significantly contributes to shaping the worldviews and attitudes of young individuals. The empirical study revealed that while the majority of students share the fundamental values of the SD concept, they have limited awareness of the SD methodology, current UN documents, and ISO standards pertaining to sustainable development. To overcome this gap, it is proposed to integrate the SD methodology elements into the educational process. This study presents potential educational strategies to enhance students' understanding of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), offering additional benefits such as internationalization opportunities and the development of essential soft skills through collaborative project-based learning.
