Computational Assessment of the Influence of the Structure of High-Frequency Capacitive Glow Discharges on the Excitation Homogeneity of the Active Medium of a CO2-Laser

The purpose of this study is to investigate and compare the structure of high-frequency capacitive glow discharges obtained at different frequencies of high-frequency current and to evaluate their compliance with the requirement of the active medium excitation homogeneity in a CO
2
-laser with convective cooling. The power supply scheme of the glow discharge with alternating high-frequency alternating current was considered. For the positive column plasma of the high-frequency capacitive glow discharge of a CO
2
-laser, the calculation of the voltage drop on the gas gap, on the dielectric, as well as on both of them together at different frequencies and a current density of 20 mA/cm
²
was performed. The structure of the α-form and γ-form of the high-frequency capacitive glow discharge was reviewed; their compliance with the requirement of the active medium excitation homogeneity in the CO
2
-laser with convective cooling was evaluated.
