Securing ISO 15118 Communication in Electric Vehicles using Real-Time Monitoring and Vehicle-to-Grid Sniffer

This paper proposes an innovative approach to monitor ISO 15118 communication between electric vehicles, utilizing the Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) sniffer system and Wireshark. The objective is to gain valuable insights into the communication process between Electric Vehicle Communication Controllers (EVCCs) and Supply Equipment Communication Controllers (SECCs) in the ISO 15118 protocol. The Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) sniffer system is constructed with a Nucleo sniffer board connected to the Electric Vehicle (EV) or the supply Equipment (SE) using UART for message interception and then the Nucleo sniffer board forwards these messages to the PC using Ethernet, where it is analyzed using Wireshark, enabling the real-time capture of communication data. By monitoring ISO 15118 communication, this study reveals communication patterns, message exchanges, and potential optimization opportunities.
