CdSe/CdS/SiO2/BN Quantum Rods Assembly for LED Display Application

Semiconductor CdSe/CdS quantum rod (QRs) have attracted great research interest owning to their excellent photoluminescent property, large Stokes shift, and easy integration with mini/micro-LEDs for application in wide- color gamut display devices. However, the CdSe/CdS QRs still face critical stability issue in practical environment. Here, we reported the fabrication of CdSe/CdS/SiO
2
/BN QRs assembly (QRAs) by encapsulating CdSe/CdS QRs with SiO
2
and further embedded in layer-by-layer assembled BN nanoplates. The assembly structure effectively improves the heat transfer and air resistance of the QRs in LED devices. The effect of morphology as well as SiO
2
thickness on the optical performance, fluorescent quenching, and stability of the QRs in LEDs was investigated with optical analysis and thermal simulation. The QRAs converted LEDs demonstrate excellent color quality with largely improved efficiency and long-term stability.
