Basic Study on Analytical Methods Using Ion Beam Induced Luminescence

Ion beam induced luminescence (IBIL) analysis has been employed as one means of accurately understanding the extraction behavior of wet separation methods, which are expected to achieve advanced separation performance as MA separation technology. IBIL analysis is a material analysis method that uses an ion beam to excite the outer shell electrons of an analyte and detects and analyzes the electromagnetic waves (Ion beam induced luminescence) of a few eV generated during the relaxation process. Since this measurement method focuses on the emission by outer-shell electrons, unlike PIXE or RBS analysis, it can provide information on bonding, but the value and methods of its use are still unclear. Therefore, the chemical composition of natural mineral pigments made from crushed natural ores was clarified by combining the ore luminescence database with IBIL and PIXE analyses, demonstrating the usefulness of these analytical methods.
