Building an Electronic Resource of Systematic Reviews in Computing

Systematic reviews have been widely used in various fields, including computing. Unlike traditional literature reviews, they have the advantage of reducing bias in selecting primary studies to review since they are conducted according to a well-defined and transparent procedure. Thus, they provide researchers with a comprehensive overview of a specific research area, the existing limitations, and the available opportunities. They are also an important source of information about relevant methods, datasets, and other resources in the area. Databases of systematic reviews exist in healthcare. However, no similar resource exists in computing, where systematic reviews have become increasingly popular. Therefore, this project aims to provide researchers in the computing field with a comprehensive electronic resource of available systematic reviews. Currently, the resource contains 4,217 systematic reviews, of which 4,147 are peer- reviewed. The computing areas that are most represented in the resource are software engineering and artificial intelligence. To extend the resource and facilitate its use by the community, future work will include complementing the resource of system- atic reviews with automatic methods for locating available and new systematic reviews, annotating reviews, and assessing their quality to facilitate user searches for reviews with particular characteristics.
