HF Frequency Multi Band WSPR Beacon with Energy Storage System based on MPPT Charge Controller

International network of WSPR beacon is a network of radio transmitters, usually operating on the HF frequency band (80 m, 60 m, 40 m bands) and designed to study radio wave propagation using low power transmissions (up to 10 W). The Weak Signal Propagation Reporter or WSPR protocol allows to transmit station call sign, station location data and transmitter power in dBm over long distance (in some cases up to thousands of kilometers) with a signal bandwidth of only 6 Hz and a low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) (down to -28 dB).This work presents the implementation of a multiband autonomous WSPR beacon powered by LiFePO4 battery with an energy storage system based on MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking) charge controller using an open-circuit voltage measurement method. The possibility of the OTA (over-the-air) programming and remote control of beacon using LoRa (Long Range) wireless communication technology is also presented.
