The Problem of Preserving the Governing Equations’ Structure in Computer Simulation of Fluid Flow

Real time fluid animation remains challenging interesting area of research because of a number of problems that vary from high computational cost of the simulation to numerical viscosity. In this paper we mostly focus on the problem of saving the structure of determining equations. Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) is mostly based on the use of incompressible Navier-Stokes equations, however, when it comes to visual component, the use of Eulerian schemes is more advantageous. Lagrangian schemes also can be used, but it’s hard to implement them efficiently. Either way methods require further adjustments to prevent energy dissipation, and preserve kinetic energy in time, total enstrophy and time reversibility. Approaching the solution of the problem, we consider the full-Euler schemes that do not depend on grid size or spatial sampling of a simulation which are yet to be explored in modeling.
