Small-Sized Generator of Nanosecond High Voltage Pulses Built on the Basis of Shock Ionization Dynistors and Drift Step-Recovery Diodes

A generator of nanosecond pulses of high voltage, built on the basis of a high-voltage block of shock ionization dynistors, is discussed. The generator delivers the pulses of current with an amplitude of ~ 550 A and a front duration of ~ 8 ns through the load of 10 Ω. The usage of a second circuit created using a small-sized block of drift step-recovery diodes allowed to reduce the front duration of the output current pulses to ~ 3 ns. As a result of the introduction of a sharpening smallsized block of dynistors of 5 mm diameter n the second circuit, nanosecond voltage pulses with an amplitude of 18 kV, and ~ 400 ps front duration were formed for the load of 50 Ω.
