SPRUCE: A Wearable Self-Analysis System for Real-Time Sports Performance Monitoring

The convergence of talent and determination often faces an impediment in the form of financial constraints, preventing individuals from accessing proper coaching and refining their skills. To address this issue, “SPRUCE”, is introduced which is an innovative wearable device tailored for self-analysis and performance monitoring in sports. The device is ingeniously integrated into sports equipment, such as racquets, and interfaces with a mobile application, obviating the need for a dedicated coach.SPRUCE capitalizes on advancements in wearable technology to empower athletes by offering real-time self-assessment. The device employs sensors strategically positioned on racquets to capture orientation and acceleration data. This information is then processed by an Arduino board, continuously seeking sensor output. The resultant data aids in the computation of linear and angular racquet motion during play, including the speed and impact angle of ball strikes. Subsequently, these calculated parameters are seamlessly transmitted to a mobile app via Bluetooth connectivity.
