Design of High Gain 5G Millimeter wave Micro Strip Patch Antenna for Wireless Applications

A novel design of millimeter wave high gain micro strip patch antenna design which is much suited for automotive wireless application like vehicle to vehicle communication using RADAR operated at a frequency of 76.5 GHz is proposed herewith. The performance metric for antenna design considered are the standard metrics and depends on the type of type of substrate and dimensions. The design complexity surges with increase in frequency of operation. This paper presents the design of micro strip patch using matlab –antenna design tool box at 76.5 GHz.. The design includes three important layers namely the rectangular patch, substrate and ground. The different layers of the antenna and the substrate can be varied, analyzed and is augmented using this Matlab simulator tool. The antenna performance factors such as practical gain, radiation efficiencies, total efficiencies, bandwidth and the radiation pattern are considered for the resonant frequency 76.5 GHzs. The design implementation shows that it provides a large refection co-efficient for the operating bandwidth 1Ghzs. The simulation results show that it has a minimum return loss below – 10db, VSWR 1.2 and good radiation pattern at the design frequency. This design provides high gain and optimal bandwidth of 1 GHz with overall operating efficiency upto 97%. Thus the design can be applied for high speed wireless data transfer such as automotive, WLAN and healthcare applications.
