Band gap Prediction of Natural Dyes for Dye Sensitized Solar Cells

Dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) have transpired as a propitious photovoltaic technology with the potential to address the global demand for sustainable energy sources. These cells utilize dyes to absorb light and permute it into electricity, offering cost-effective and environmental friendly aberrant to prosaic silicon-based solar cells. In recent years, there has been heightening inquisitiveness in replacing synthetic dyes with natural dyes, sourced from various plant parts, have garnered attention due to their abundance, renewability, and biodegradability. The band gap of natural hues used in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) can vary depending on the specific dye and its molecular structure and is a critical parameter because it determines which portion of the solar spectrum the dye can effectively absorb. Most natural dyes used in DSSCs typically have relatively narrow band gaps, allowing them to efficiently absorb sunlight in the visible region of the spectrum, because a significant portion of solar energy is concentrated in the visible range. In this research the natural dyes used for DSSCs are extricated from Blue pea flower, Beetroot and Broccoli. Furthermore, predicting the band gap of these natural dyes for dye-sensitized solar cells is a challenging task, but it is accomplished using machine learning techniques.
