Speed Control of Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor Using Field Oriented Control

This paper consists of mathematical modelling and field-oriented control of the interior permanent magnet synchronous motor(PMSM). Permanent magnet machines which are used in EV’s are controlled by vector control techniques, which have sinusoidal mmf’s, The advantage of the vector technique is that it offers great stability in the speed obtained with less oscillations and smooth torque. Vector control enables independent control of flux and torque. In which decoupled flux and torque generating currents are independently controlled by a field-oriented control (FOC). To supply the voltage to the motor a Voltage Source Inverter is used which is driven by space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM )technique to produce pulses for the inverter. The simulation of field-oriented control is realized in MATLAB/Simulink.
