Distributed Lens-Based Beamforming for Robust Millimeter Wave 5G Networks

The Millimeter wave (mmWave) 5G network challenges through distributed lens-based beamforming using programmable metasurface lenses. Unlike conventional phased arrays, these lenses manipulate wavefronts to achieve desired radiation patterns, eliminating the need for extensive digital processing and synchronization. The paper presents analytical models, optimization methods, and a prototype meta-surface lens at 28 GHz for basic validation.
