Virtual Reality-based Application for Rehabilitation: Corsi -Test

This paper explores the development and implementation of virtual reality (VR) serious application for the assessment of spatial memory, with a focus on the Corsi-test. Spatial memory is a crucial cognitive function that enables individuals to understand and navigate through their surroundings. The Corsi-test, a widely used neuropsychological assessment, measures visuospatial and working memory abilities. By adapting the Corsi-test for VR, using the Oculus Quest 2 headset and Unity game engine, a more immersive and engaging assessment experience is created. The VR Corsi-test eliminates the need for a test administrator within the application environment, reducing performance pressure and potential stress. Customization options, such as different room types and difficulty levels, enhance the flexibility and adaptability of the assessment. The use of VR technology capitalizes on children's attraction to technology, increasing their engagement and motivation during the test. However, caution must be exercised in interpreting VR-based assessments, ensuring that they accurately reflect real-world spatial memory abilities. Overall, VR serious applications show promise in advancing cognitive assessment practices.
