Multi-agent based Fault Location and Isolation System with Cosimulation-based Validation

The article introduces a multi-agent system-based fault location, isolation, and service restoration (FLISR) for medium-voltage grids with high solar inverter penetration. This system enables local decision-making by agents based on exchanged fault direction information, reducing customer outages during power restoration. By implementing this system, DSOs can shorten outage durations, significantly enhancing SAIDI and CAIDI indices. The paper outlines a co-simulation setup involving DIgSILENT-PowerFactory, Python, and an OPC-DA server. PowerFactory simulates the network, while Python simulates the agents. These agents in Python receive and process data from PowerFactory via the OPC-DA server, allowing evaluation of the MAS-based FLISR in purely software-based environments.
