Optimal Hosting Capacity Problems considering Battery Energy Storage System using Meta-Heuristics

The penetration rate of renewable energy sources is increasing, requiring effective energy management measures as these sources are unstable. A proposed effort is to integrate additional Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) to reduce fluctuations at connection points. The paper presents an approach to the problem by optimizing the parameters of intelligent inverters using the War Strategy Algorithm (WSO) to control the reactive power flow of the inverter, aiming to achieve objectives related to increasing photovoltaic (PV) hosting capacity and voltage quality. Four operational scenarios are presented to compare the factors of PV and BESS affecting the distribution grid. The problem is simulated and computed on the IEEE 33-bus grid, and the results are compared with Moth-Flame Optimization and Mexican Axolotl Optimization to investigate the effectiveness of proposed meta-heuristics. The numerical results show that the WSO gives better solutions in most scenarios.
