Optimizing Energy in Fog Computing Architecture Based on Offloading Mechanism for IoT Devices

The emergence of the Internet of Things has led to exponential growth in the number of connected devices. These devices generate a vast amount of data that needs to be processed and analyzed, which can be computationally expensive and energy-intensive. To address this issue, fog computing has been introduced as a paradigm that offloads computation from IoT devices to nearby fog and cloud servers, thereby reducing the energy consumption of these devices. Fog computing is a decentralized architecture that brings computation and data storage closer to the edge of the network, enabling faster and more efficient data processing in IoT devices. Offloading, in the context of fog computing architecture, refers to the process of transferring computationally intensive tasks from IoT devices to fog or cloud servers. Offloading computational tasks from IoT devices to fog servers can significantly reduce the energy consumption of these devices. By offloading tasks to more powerful servers at the edge of the network, IoT devices can conserve energy and prolong battery life. This paper explores the concept of offloading in fog computing architecture as a means to achieve energy savings in IoT devices.
