Performance Analysisof Brushless DC Motor DSP Control Using CCS Studio

Brushless DC (BLDC) motors have recently been used in a variety of applications. Better power factor and efficiency can be found in BLDC motors. As a result, they generate more output power for a given frame size. These benefits of the BLDC motor come at the tradeoff of additional complexity in the control of the power converter, current shaping, and rotor position sensor requirements. This study examines various rotor position estimating methods. Encoders are utilized to sense the position of the rotor, and this information can be used to conduct the motor phases in order to achieve continuous rotation of the motor. A traditional PI controller is used to control the speed, and a hysteresis-type control technique is used to manage the current. The analog speed controller is then discretized and made digital. The DSP speed controller is programmed and simulated results are achieved using the Code Composer (CCS) Studio. The simulated results lead to the conclusion that, despite load disturbances, motor performance is good throughout a wide speed range.
