Optimizing Energy Efficiency through Hybrid AC/DC Topologies for Rural Electrification

A promising approach for efficiently powering both existing low-cost AC loads and DC loads is to use hybrid off-grid architectures that integrate AC and DC components. These newly developed arrangements hold considerable promise, especially in conditions like solar- and batterypowered rural electrification. A minimal amount of semiconductor components, continuous current ports for photovoltaic panels, batteries, regulation of both DC and AC load voltages, effective maximum power point tracking, security measures against battery overcharge and deep discharge, high-voltage boosting without the need for lowfrequency transformers, and a reduced power consumption are only a handful of the advantages that this approach offers. Existing approaches described in the literature are insufficiently comprehensive to include all them. A hybrid AC/DC system is introduced to fill this gap by connecting four-port converter in the front end and DC-AC converter as the next end. Mat lab simulation and experimental proto type were done to validate the results.
