Fault Location Method of Power Cable Based on Distributed Fiber Optic Vibration Sensing Technology

This paper proposes a fault location method for power cables based on distributed fiber optic vibration sensing technology to monitor the damage caused by power cable discharge to the surrounding fiber-optic cables. When the power cable discharge to the ground does not cause damage to the surrounding fiber optic cable, the proposed technology can accurately locate the longitudinal distance between the vibration source and the fiber optic cable, based on distributed fiber optic vibration sensing and positioning technology. When the power cable discharge causes the breakage of the fiber optic cable in the same trench, the proposed technology could achieve the precise fault location of the power cable, based on the lead ball free fall control system. The advantages and disadvantages of the proposed technique and its application scenarios are analyzed through field tests to provide a reference for future cable fault location research.
