Optical Fiber Strain Sensor Based on Optical Vernier Effect

Vernier effect is an effective method to improve the sensitivity of sensor measurement, and a high sensitivity fiber strain sensing technology based on optical vernier effect with temperature stability is proposed. The basic theory and system structure are described in detail, and the sensitivity of strain sensing is simulated. Theoretical analysis and simulation results show that a high-sensitivity strain sensor with stable ambient temperature can be realized by cascading two SMS interferometers, and the sensitivity is increased by ten times compared with the original strain sensor by combining the vernier sensitization effect with the light transmission characteristics of SMS interferometer. The proposed method may have the important research significance and engineering application value.
