Applications and Challenges of Inter-domain Routing Security Technologies

The inter-domain routing system based on BGP is the cornerstone of global network space connection. Due to initial flaws in the BGP protocol design, numerous routing incidents (BGP leaks and hijacks) affecting availability were reported, demonstrating the insecurities and fragility of the inter-domain routing system. Although a number of techniques for addressing routing security challenges have been proposed by industry and the engineering community, none of these techniques alone address routing's various challenges either by design or in practice. There are also several challenges that hinder the deployment of available techniques for improving routing.
