Creation and Implementation of Scenario Database for ADAS Application Verification

The growth in technology paved the way for advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) to be implemented in vehicles, resulting in a safer, smoother, and more automated driving experience. ADAS incorporates a variety of features which need to be verified and validated before deployment. This is done by testing the working of the features under different scenarios that a driver may face on road. In order to ensure that all possible scenarios are covered for testing, a scenario database is proposed in this paper. The database proposed would consist of all relevant scenarios needed to validate a particular feature in a vehicle. This is made certain by including a parameterisation concept in the scenario creation process. A definite methodology for creating these scenarios is also put forward in this paper. Traffic jam assist (TJA), curve speed warning (CSW), lane keeping system (LKS) and blind spot detection (BSD) features in ADAS are taken as an example to illustrate the proposed scenario creation process. Intelligent speed assistance (ISA), one of the many features in an ADAS system, is taken as an example to showcase the closed-loop validation of an algorithm in a simulation environment.
