Halal Traceability Systems in the Supply Chain for the Cosmetics Industry: Literature Review and Research Agenda

Growing awareness of halal cosmetics has attracted companies to consider their products’ compliance. Halal compliance encompasses end products and all activities along the supply chain. Ensuring halal compliance across supply chains requires a traceability system in place. Traceability lets all players, including consumers, know the products' halalness, origins, processes, and logistics activities. This paper reviews the literature on developing and implementing a traceability system, particularly in cosmetic products. The literature review methodology closed to CIMO (Context, Intervention, Mechanism, and Outcome), with the final filter becoming 76 papers. A bibliometric analysis was initially conducted to comprehend the many subjects and trends. Synthesis and mapping paper conclusion with table becomes a traceability system scheme for the proposed. Scheme besides capturing paper mapping, international OIC/SMIIC 4:2018 sets out the General Requirements for Halal Cosmetics. Develop a research agenda, a comprehensive understanding of halal traceability systems in the cosmetic supply chain, and future research guidelines are required.
