Cross Lagged Analysis of Exam Anxiety, State Anxiety, Trait Anxiety, and Test Scores among Ninth Grade Students

Objective: To explore the relationship between exam anxiety, state anxiety, trait anxiety and test scores. Method: A survey was conducted on 445 ninth grade students using a scale before and after the test. The results showed that: ① during the post test, the values of exam anxiety, state anxiety and trait anxiety all increased, while the test scores significantly decreased; ② There are significant gender differences in exam anxiety, state anxiety, trait anxiety and test scores; ③ There is a significant positive correlation between exam anxiety, state anxiety and trait anxiety; ④ There is a significant negative correlation between the change in grades and the change in state anxiety; ⑤ The results of cross lagged analysis indicate that exam anxiety significantly positively predicts trait anxiety and state anxiety; Trait anxiety significantly positively predicts exam anxiety and state anxiety; State anxiety does not significantly predict exam anxiety and trait anxiety. Conclusion: Trait anxiety and exam anxiety can positively predict each other, while test scores and state anxiety can negatively predict each other.
