The Comparison of SSSC and SVC Based Fuzzy Logic Controller for Damping Power System Oscillations

Oscillations are the key concerns in the stability of a modern power network operating near its steady-state and transient stability limits. Therefore, Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS) are extensively utilized in various power networks in order to damp these oscillations and enhance the stability of system. This paper presents and discusses Static VAR Compensator (SVC) and Static Synchronous Series Compensator (SSSC) based on Fuzzy Logic Controller (FLC). Power oscillation damping is enhanced by the proposed scheme. To assess the effectiveness of the proposed system, simulations are conducted in MATLAB/Simulink. Results show that SVC with Fuzzy Logic Controller improves the damping performance, and it can significantly improve the dynamic performance of the power system during major disturbances.
