Modeling and Performance Estimation of 153 MWe Parabolic Trough Power Plant in Djamaa Algeria

Algeria is seeking to exploit the clean energy source in order to meet the growing demand for energy, and the nature of the desert climate provides it with enormous natural qualifications in this field. A description of parabolic trough power plants and their operating principles is given in this paper. The plant operates using solar energy only, without having to rely on fossil fuels. However, a thermal storage system is required. The average number of solar operating hours is between 10 and 12 hours during the summer months for the chosen site of Djamma. We used the Siemens Sunfield 6 collector with an aperture area equal to 5.77 [m]. The results showed that the total annual energy output of the plant is 365,587,936 [kWh] with 30% capacity factor for the first year, while the net capacity cost is 665,842,851.52 DA. The gross-to-net conversion was found to be 90.2%. The annual water requirement is 88,482

, which can be met from groundwater extracted through the drilling process at the project completion site.
