Incorporation of Pomegranate Peels Extracts and Powder with Gelatin Films for Active Food Packaging

Active Packaging films were developed by incorporating different concentrations (2% Gelatin,5%,10%) of pomegranate peels extracts and powder into gelatin films. Films were characterized by Fourier transform infrared, spectroscopy and thermal gravimetric analysis, Radical Scavenging Activity, thickness and moisture content together together with the determination of physical.optical, mechanical, antioxidant and thermal properties of the films. By studying several properties, results revealed that pomegranate peel has a good potential to be incorporated into gelatin films to prepare active food applications.
