Comparative Study of Optimization Methods for a Fuel Cell - Battery - PV Hybrid System for a Mobile Application

The need to find a less polluting alternative to the problem of transport and to make up for the worldwide depletion of fossil fuels has led research to focus on electric vehicles. The challenge of using renewable sources to power these vehicles reside in the intermittent nature of these resources. Hence the hybridization of various sources for continuous power supply and better performance of the electric vehicle becomes the best practice to face global pollution due to transport. Many sources can be combined for the purpose and several works have been done in the area. This work focus on the combination of solar photovoltaic (PV), Fuel cells and battery storage to supply power to mobile charge at all time. The new challenge addressed in this work is power sources management problem. In other word, how to ensure maximum power supply to the mobile charge using different sources and how to adapt the existing solution to developing counties like Benin Many research works address the issue in different ways in the literature and diverse methods are lay down. The actual main concern in this work is to make a comparative analysis of different power sources optimization models for electric vehicle and bring out their compatibility to an adopted Africa developing countries driving cycle. The methodology involves identifying the different methods and analyzing their advantages and shortcomings. The main results of this comparative study of hybrid system management methods relate to the inadequacy of off-line and on-line control strategies in that they do not take into account the model of a real driving cycle. The next research will brake down an adapted optimization model for electric vehicles used in hash conditions to enable this generation the reduce Carbone impact due to urban and rural transport.
