Numerical Simulation of Non-Isentropic Compressible Homogeneous Sheared Turbulence: Thermodynamic Effect of Initial Gradient Mach Number

The aim of this work is to simulate compressible homogeneous non-isentropic turbulence initially isothermal and submitted to pure shear using Rapid Distortion Theory (RDT) method. It thus completes the study of Riahi and Lili (2023). The degree to which RDT can be used to analyze compressibility effect, in particular, on thermal properties of the turbulence, is verified. We find that initial gradient Mach number, which is a parameter used to characterize compressibility, has an effect on thermodynamic variables behaviors, especially for the root mean square (rms) fluctuations of pressure, temperature, density and correlations between them.
