Feasibility study and performance investigation of a Munters-Platen cycle using new alkane mixtures as absorbents

In a world that is shaken by the energy crisis and faced with unstoppable climate change, it is essential for all sectors to control energy consumption. Around 15% of the energy used in industry is consumed by refrigeration and air conditioning systems alone. Optimizing energy performance in this area is crucial for companies seeking to maintain their competitiveness and address current energy challenges. This work aimed to improve the performance of absorption-diffusion cycles and to response to the actual world demand by the search for new ecological refrigerants to replace the fluids commonly used. We present a new investigation of a Munters-Platen cycle using new alkane's mixtures as absorbents: Propylene is chosen as refrigerant; those less volatile are taken as absorbents. The different pairs of alkanes considered are the propene(C3H6) / undecane (n-C11H24) and propene(C3H6)/dodecane (n-C12H26) binaries.
