Millimeter-Wave Display-Integrated FMCW Radar for Hand Gesture Recognition in Mobile Devices

This paper proposes a display-integrated radar for hand gesture recognition (HGR) in mobile devices. The array antennas of the proposed radar are implemented in dead space, which is the edge part of the display panel to overcome lack of space problem in mobile devices. The proposed radar module is fabricated, and by signal processing, distinct four micro-signatures are generated for each gesture. The performance of HGR of our radar is verified by training and testing the micro-signatures using machine learning algorithm.
