SAR Stacking Interferometry to Monitor Critical Infrastructures and Detect Deformation Anomalies

Monitoring of critical infrastructure is crucial to continuously verify structural health and safety not only of the structures but of the surrounding areas as well. In the last decades, the use of SAR data and multi-temporal interferometric techniques proved their capability of integrating in-situ monitoring system providing deformation behavior of the infrastructures with sensitivity to small displacements, up to a few mm/year. In this work we present several case studies where dams and tailing dams have been analyzed through SAR interferometric techniques, specifically with the Small Baseline Subset approach, highlighting the importance of identifying anomalies in the temporal or spatial evolution of deformation to possible prevent catastrophic events.
