A Comparative Study of Sensing Technologies for Automatic Detection of Home Elopement

This paper presents four prototype implementations of a low-cost automatic system dedicated to home exit detection. The prototypes employ Bluetooth Low Energy beacon and Wi-Fi technology to identify the person of interest and alarm the caregiver about elopement event but differ in sensing technologies utilized to detect the event. We experimentally evaluate the technologies in the same environment and compare the results in terms of accuracy, response time and implementation cost.
