Analysis of Sentinel 1 and Sentinel 2 Image for Monitoring Heterogeneous Pepper Plantation in Magelang Indonesia

Pepper (Capsicum spp) is an essential spice in Indonesia, and monitoring its supply is important for food security. The heterogeneity of pepper plantations among local farmers is a challenging problem for estimating the pepper supply. Satellite-based monitoring has been proposed to assist the local government with supplemental data to cope with pepper supply estimation. Sentinel 1 Dual Pole Radar Vegetation Index (DpRVI) and Sentinel 2 Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) were analyzed for three months on the Magelang pepper plantation. The index is correlated with the campaign data in 11 heterogeneous fields. The result shows that 63% of NDVI value has a high correlation but with a limited amount of observable satellite data. However, the DpRVI correlation yields a 72% of moderate correlation with ground observation.
