LinderCare: Your Triage Solution to Better Health

The healthcare system in Kenya caters to over 45 million individuals who rely on hospitals for medical treatment, diagnosis, and monitoring of their illnesses. However, the hospital triage process is slow, leading to long queues and delayed care due to a shortage of medical personnel in the public health sector. This has adverse effects on patient's health, with some resorting to over-the-counter medication and, in severe cases, even losing their lives. To address these challenges, we employed the continuous innovation framework to assess potential solutions' feasibility, desirability, and viability in the Kenyan market. We discovered through extensive research and interviews that effective patient care extends beyond triage and requires continuous monitoring throughout their movement within the facility. As a result, we propose the development of a triage device with an integrated wristband for continuous patient vital monitoring and geolocation within the hospital. This solution aims to expedite the triaging process, alleviating the burden on medical personnel and enabling them to respond promptly to emergency cases. Streamlining the triage process will improve service delivery, benefiting patients and healthcare providers. We aim to deliver a fully functional solution within three years, with initial prototypes available within a year and testing commencing in the second year. By implementing this innovative system, we anticipate significant enhancements in healthcare services, ultimately improving the well-being of patients and healthcare providers in Kenya.
