A Metamaterial Inspired 1×4 Linear Antenna Array With Beam-Forming Network For 5G Applications

This paper discusses the design of a linear 1×4 antenna array using metamaterials (MTM) for 5G applications. The array consists of four single-element MTM-UWB antennas fed by a beamforming network (BFN) based on an MTM-inspired Butler matrix (BM). The proposed design was simulated using CST Microwave Studio and operates within the frequency range of 2.8GHz-4.05GHz (1.25 GHz) with a return-loss of less than -10dB. By exciting different input ports of the BM, the main beam of the antenna array can be steered in four different directions: -165°, -40°, +40°, and +165°. The results demonstrate that the proposed design is well-suited for 5G applications.
