Design of a Compact Dual-Band Frequency Reconfigurable Antenna for WBAN Applications

A compact dual-band frequency reconfigurable antenna for WBAN applications is designed and analyzed in this paper. The proposed antenna is simulated on a flexible Rogers Duroid RO3003TM material with a compact size of 38 mm × 40 mm × 0.5 mm. In the OFF state of the PIN diode, a single resonance (ISM 5.8 GHz) with a percentage bandwidth of 5.2% at 5.8 GHz is achieved. However, in the ON state, dualresonance (ISM 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz) with a percentage bandwidth of 3.9% and 5.4% are achieved. Bidirectional and directional radiation patterns are observed in the E-plane while omnidirectional radiation patterns are observed in the H-plane. The proposed antenna is a good candidate for WBAN applications.
