Stretchable Patch Antenna Using Kirigami Technique for Wearable 5G Communication

A stretchable patch antenna with a geometrical dimension of 47.0 mm (L) × 66.0 mm (W) × 5.00 mm (H) is proposed. To significantly increase the stretchability, Kirigami patterns are introduced on both the patch and the ground plane. Simulation is used to prove the stretchability of rigid metals using Kirigami patterns. The Ecoflex 0030 is employed as a stretchable substrate to encapsulate both the patch and the ground plane. The proposed antenna has a resonant frequency of 3.59 GHz and a broadside radiation pattern with a maximum gain of 0.306 dBi.
