Multilayer S/X-Band Array Antenna for Shipborne Radar Applications

In this paper, we propose a multilayer S- and X-bands array antenna for shipborne radar applications. The proposed antenna consists of the three parts such as the multilayered radiators, transmit receiver modules (TRMs), and an interface layer. S- and X-band elements of the multilayered radiators are designed in a mutual complementary form to reduce the blockage effect by the upper S-band elements. For the electric beam steering, each element of the multilayered radiator should be individually connected to the TRMs. Then, the durability of the antenna is improved by employing the interface layer between the radiators and the TRMs. The maximum array gains with the 16 unit-cells in the S- and X-bands are observed to be 14.6 dBi and 26.6 dBi, respectively.
