Unravelling the Skills Deficit in Tech: An Educator's Perspective

Higher education institutions face significant challenges in ensuring graduates leave higher education institutions with skills that are in line with those needed by industry. As a result of these challenges, graduate unemployment is particularly high in computing and related fields, despite the technology sector being an area of growth. This article synthesises data and research on the tech skills gap and examines various social and educational factors contributing to the issue. By approaching the problem through multiple research questions, a more comprehensive understanding is gained. The article suggests actions for educators but recognizes that a lasting solution requires collaboration between educators, employers, policymakers, and society.
