Industrializing Cambodia Through Technology Transfer and Adoption

The royal government is strongly convinced that industrial development from the inclusion of Science, Technology & Innovation (STI) is critical to realize the ambitious endeavor to be an upper middle-income country by 2030 and higher income country by 2050. Rapid development of technologies requires small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) to embrace transformation in regard to technology transfer and adoption to forge the supply chain in the global market, leading to deter business resilience to growth. Technological wise informs the necessity of technology transfer and adoption in the business ecosystem of the Kingdom. For this reason, the objectives of this study are to deepen the technologies used in the Agriculture, Manufacturing, and Trade and Service sectors and trigger the technology transformation in the sectoral firms. The sampling method of the survey study generates a sample size appropriate to explain the goal of firm performance analysis, focusing mainly on maturity, identifying barriers, and human resources that affect productivity. A cluster random sampling is the whole population divided into clusters or groups. The interim analysis presented here was intended to assist in the choice of decision-making. All analyses were made in R (R Core Team). It is to reconfirm the need to alleviate the skill gap and skill mismatch for STEM majors. Enterprises demand some important technologies, including data analytics, automation technology, system development, and IT infrastructure heavily, to name some. While technology made by locals remains limited, the enterprises are highly recommended for having in-house training in collaboration with matured or strong corporates for transferring technology to employees. On the other hand, joint curriculum development between the private sector and educational institutions like universities and technical and vocational training schools is necessary to meet the current demand. Simultaneously, it is crucial to design curriculums beginning with early childhood education that foster an entrepreneurial spirit in the brains of future generations. Likewise, the investment of quality researchers in the public or private sector to produce innovative knowledge for local demand is a must in the development agenda.
