Founder of the Scientific Radioelectronic School of Ukraine: Professor Dmytro Rozhanskyi

The scientific and pedagogical activities of Professor Dmytro Rozhanskyi at Kharkiv University have been investigated. An analysis of the scientist’s scientific legacy has been made, and his contribution to the development of global radioengineering research has been assessed. Indeed, at the initiative of D. Rozhanskyi, research in the field of ultrahigh frequencies, methods of generating decimeter and centimeter waves, propagation of short radio waves, frequency stabilization of vacuum tube generators, gas discharge physics, microwave electronics, and antenna theory were initiated and expanded. The scientific school established by Professor Rozhanskyi at Kharkiv University got development through the creation of new institutions and promising research directions. The distinguished features of Professor D. Rozhanskyi’s radioengineering scientific school were the organic combination of fundamental theoretical research and the practical application of the obtained results. It has been established that thanks to the scientific physical seminar initiated by the scientist, the radio physics direction got development at the Kharkiv Technological Institute, thanks to the first Professor of radioengineering at the Institute, Professor Oleksii Khinkulov. It has been proven that the innovative scientific work of D. Rozhanskyi and his scientific school is unquestionably a significant achievement in the history of Ukrainian science and technology. Based on the inclusion of documents from the Rozhanskyi family, the life path of the scientist has been illuminated, including the challenging period of his time in Kharkiv during the post-revolutionary years. Despite the famine and typhus that prevailed in Kharkiv, the cessation of funding for scientific research, and the difficulties that befell his family, the scientist continued his research activities and leadership of the department and scientific seminar.
