A Novel Cantor-Inspired Fractal for Wideband Mutual Coupling Reduction Between Closely-Spaced Patches in MIMO Microstrip Antenna Arrays

This paper presents a novel structure for wideband mutual coupling reduction between multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) microstrip antenna arrays with elliptical patch elements. The proposed structure utilizes Cantor's fractal with dynamic parameters to effectively decouple an average of 25 dB of transmission between the antenna array elements. Simulations using Ansys HFSS software were conducted to evaluate the performance of the proposed structure. Additionally, prototypes were fabricated and measured to validate the simulation results, demonstrating good agreement between the simulated and measured outcomes. Furthermore, the proposed antenna array design exhibits improvements in mutual coupling reduction, size reduction, and overall performance compared to traditional Cantor's fractal antenna array designs.
