Investigation of the Availability and Level of Utilization of Fire-Fighting Equipment in Curbing the Menace of Fire Carnages in Public Buildings in CBD Abuja

This study is an investigation of the availability and level of utilization of fire-fighting equipment in curbing the menace of fire carnages in public buildings in CBD Abuja. The research design adopted survey analysis using primary data gathered from structured questionnaires from selected public buildings located in CBD Abuja. Data were analyzed using multiple regression. The findings revealed that the availability of firefighting equipment and utilization of firefighting equipment showed a positive and significant impact on fighting fire carnages. Also, the level of availability and utilization of firefighting equipment in fighting fire carnages among public buildings in Abuja is a function of physical and non-physical factors. In conclusion, the homogeneity that exists among the fire safety variables as it relates to the fighting fire carnages in public buildings in CBD Abuja call for re-engineering to explore the potential growth merits embedded in the fire safety practices that are yet to be adopted by public building fire safety managers. The positive coefficients of fire safety variables such as availability of firefighting equipment and utilization of firefighting equipment in relation to fighting fire carnages in public buildings is a further indicator that the building can gain further through the long-term focused strategy on these fire safety practices accelerating performance. The study recommends that there is a need for an increase in the level of availability of firefighting equipment in public buildings and adequate attention given to it to match the possible fire circumstance that may arise at any time.
