Engineering Risk Analysis of Potential Outcomes and Threats of the Integration of ERP Systems

The modern world is changing faster and faster, and digitalisation in all its forms is taking over more and more of everyday life. In business, digitalisation manifests itself in the form of the integration of modern increasingly intelligent and large-scale ERP systems for the management of firms and companies - they allow monitoring, analysis and management of all business processes, as well as extremely serious optimization of company activities, and as a result much greater flexibility and competitiveness. These advantages and new opportunities are balanced against the high complexity and cost of ERP integration projects, as well as their high risk of failure. This puts all enterprises and companies in a serious dilemma. The purpose of this paper is to ground the different aspects of this dilemma by examining the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats of ERP systems integration. To achieve the stated objective, detailed research has been conducted for the first time among business process analysts from Central and Eastern Europe who have contributed voluntarily to the results of their participation in ERP systems integration projects in small, medium and larger companies and enterprises. Based on the data obtained, a SWOT analysis has been carried out, which allows the different dimensions of the aforementioned dilemma to be outlined at an international European level.
